Either way, but make sure to do "double boiler" to melt chocolate. You can't make it smooth it you heat the chocolate on direct heat.
I'd put chocolat in the fondue pot with some heavy cream and butter and heat this double boiler on the kichen range until it's completely melted and stir until smooth, maybe add some cognac, and the alcohol burner, I'd use it maybe just to keep it warm on the table.
the fondue pot is suposed to be hot so that the chocolat can melt, so there no need to dirt dishes!:-)When making chocolate fondue do you melt the chocolate in the fondue pot or in a seperate pot then pour it in?
You can melt it in there if you are certain it is one for chocolate. It has to have a seperate section to put water in. If it is just one, then you cannot do chocolate because it will scorch.
You *can* melt it in the fondue pot, but I probably wouldn't. Not because it's dangerous or anything, but because there's only so much alcohol in each burner, and I don't want to waste half of it getting the chocolate to melt, when I can do that in the freakin' microwave if I'm careful.
Also, don't forget there's more to chocolate fondue than just melting chocolate. You need some heavy cream in there too! When making chocolate fondue do you melt the chocolate in the fondue pot or in a seperate pot then pour it in?
Hmmm... I;ve only ever used those small crock pots, and usually I just put the chocolate right in the pot and let it melt in there. yum... fondue sounds good... i think I'll go get some chocolate...
You should either melt it in a double boiler or the microwave because you don't want the chocolate to burn. Then add it to the fondue pot.
I make my chocolate fondue in my crockpot. Melt the chocolate and add a dash of Grand Marnier (or orange extract) and a little cream. Pretty tasty stuff.
