Chocolate fondue / dessert wedding reception ( food )?

our wedding is in april and we are thinking of having desserts only to eat.

family members could do their famouse desserts and we have their name in front of it (example: grandma famous poundcake; aunties secret dump cake...).most of the family already said they would like to help/ be involved in the wedding.and of course nobody HAS to bake anything, its only if they want to.

and we will add 2 or 3 chokolate fountains with a bunch of different things to dip in.

we are prob. going to have about 50-60 guest -family only!- at the wedding. so we don't need 50 servings of everything.

location: savannah,GA

my questions are:

do you think this is going to be expensive? how much$?

do you think this would be nice?

and what all could people dip in the fountain?Chocolate fondue / dessert wedding reception ( food )?
I hope this is a late reception so people would have been able to eat dinner beforehand. I would be upset to find out it was just dessert being served if I hadn't eaten dinner already. you may want to incorporate other family food traditions other than desserts so people won't leave hungry.
The first link below gives pricing from a company that rents fountains throughout the U.S.

I think it would be nice, but MESSY. Is that something you care to have on your wedding day? And remember, YOU have to buy the chocolate to put in the fountain, too. If you don't mind, go for it!

You'll need to have small food items for people to dip in the fountain like small pieces of pound cake, miniature donuts, fruit, pretzels, marshmallows, cookies, etc.

The second link is ideas of foods others have used to dip in the chocolate.

Congrats, have fun, and God bless!Chocolate fondue / dessert wedding reception ( food )?
thats AWESOME!! but good things to dip in chocolate are fruit like strawberries, bananas, pineapple, or you could try making a buch of smores without the chocolate to dip in chocolate- its kind of a traditional dessert with a spin.

good luck and congrats!
Good things to dip in chocolate are: slices of bananas, marshmallows, strawberries, pieces of pound cake, pretzels, pineapple...

I think it sounds very nice =]Chocolate fondue / dessert wedding reception ( food )?
What a lovely idea!!! You might consider having odds and ends for those not able to eat traditional sweets (diabetics etc.) or some sugar free items to choose from. Here are some thoughts:

1. If your family is going to help you out by donating a special dish, than the expenses will be cut down considerably. You'll need to figure out who's bringing what and what you'll need to supply in the event that not everyone will participate. Renting fountains shouldn't be too terribly expensive and you might want to consider having a white chocolate fountain in addition to a milk chocolate or dark chocolate fountain.

2. Yes, I think having a dessert buffet reception is an excellant idea! And, what a wonderful way to honor your families special ingrediants and noted desserts! Be sure to include a special thank you toast in your festivities for each and everyone one participating.

3. Most notable items for dipping include: marshmallows, pound cake, cookies, brownie bites, fresh fruit cubes and slices, dried apricots, pineapple, etc., pretzels, donut holes, etc.
