I bought Rachel Ray's fondue set a few days ago and OMG do we love it! I didn't buy it because of her name, but I really researched it on the web and I really prefer cast iron with enamel coating best of all in cook ware. It works awesome! It uses denatured alcohol and really keeps things hot and cooking for a long time! (BTW, what is denatured alcohol anyway?)
Do you have any great chocolate fondue recipes? I am specifically looking for a recipe where the chocolate will dry and harden. The basic one we used last night was a dip and eat sort of fondue. The kids kept wanting the chocolate to get hard. Thanks in advance!Chocolate Fondue???.....?
Here's a recipe for Magic Shell Chocolate Ice Cream Sauce that I believe will work for you. Just use the fondue pot instead of the microwave
Magic Shell Ice Cream Topping
Ingredients:
1 package (6 oz) chocolate chips
1/2 stick butter or margarine
1/4 cup mazola corn oil
Directions:
Melt chips and butter together (microwave on low). When melted, add oil.
Pour over ice cream and it will harden.
This one may be even better
Hard Chocolate Sauce
4 oz. bittersweet chocolate, broken in pieces
1 oz. cocoa butter
Melt chocolate and cocoa butter together over a double boiler, stirring until smooth. Sauce may be used immediately or after cooling slightly. Pour over ice cream to create a hard chocolate shell.
Dip ice cream bars or frozen bananas in sauce.
Dip strawberries or other fruit (oranges are especially good) in sauce and place on a plate lined with wax paper. Refrigerate until chocolate hardens.
Makes about 3/4 cup.
Note: Cocoa butter can be found in most health stores.Chocolate Fondue???.....?
The Original Chocolate Fondue
Ingredients
* 1 11-1/2-ounce package milk chocolate pieces
* 1/4 cup milk
* 1 tablespoon crunchy peanut butter
* Milk
* Assorted fruits (such as star fruit or carambola slices, orange sections, whole strawberries, pear slices, banana slices, apple slices)
* Angel-food cake or pound cake cubes
* Marshmallows
Directions
1. In the top of a double boiler placed over gently simmering water, or in heavy small saucepan, combine the chocolate pieces and 1/4 cup milk. Stir in additional milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency.
2. Pour mixture into a fondue pot; place over fondue burner set on low. With fondue forks or long skewers, dip fruit dippers, cake cubes and/or marshmallows into chocolate mixture. (Will hold up to 1 hour on low. If mixture gets too thick, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time.) Makes 5 (1/4-cup) servings.
Chocolate S锟組ores Fondue: Prepare as above except omit peanut butter. Pour mixture into a fondue pot; place over fondue burner set on low. Add 1 tablespoon marshmallow creme to the center. Do not stir. Slowly pour 1 tablespoon rum into fondue pot. Ignite liquor by touching lighted match to edge of pot. (Cooking or flambeing with an open flame should be done with great care and adult supervision. It will take about 1-1/2 minutes for the flame to burn down.) Carefully swirl the mixture after flame has subsided. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon graham cracker crumbs over the top. Do not stir. With fondue forks or long skewers, dip fruit dippers, cake cubes and/or marshmallows into mixture.
Flaming Turtle Fondue: Prepare as above except omit peanut butter. Stir in 2 tablespoons caramel ice cream topping. Cook and stir until heated through. Pour mixture into a fondue pot; place over fondue burner set on low. Slowly pour 1 tablespoon rum into fondue pot. Ignite liquor by touching lighted match to edge of pot. (Cooking or flambeing with an open flame should be done with great care and adult supervision. With fondue forks or long skewers, dip fruit dippers, cake cubes and/or marshmallows into mixture.Chocolate Fondue???.....?
