I love cheese fondue! You want a mix of Gruyere, Emmenthal and cheddar. Stale breaad is best (about 2 days old) cos it really absorbs the sauce. You can also use boiled new potatoes and cherry tomatoes are quite fun. You should also have pickled onions and gherkins on the side. mmm getting hungry just thinking about it. Enjoy!
Gruyere cheese, swiss cheese, cheddar cheese any kind that you like really same goes for what to dip french breads, sausages, chicken, ham etc..

chocolate- strawberries, pound cake, pretzels, mini cream puffs, graham crackers, banana, etc..
Gruyere cheese seems to be what the pros call for and using sourdough bread is very popular.

On the chocolate one, fruits, pretzels, white cake, popcorn all work well.

Bon appetit!
You are on the right track! You have great ideas. You can also use for cheese sausage links or those small hotdog links and chunks of ham or turkey. For chocolate, you can also use doughnut holes! Fondue is great, hope you enjoy!
cheese- cubes of bread, broccoli, carrots, apples, grapes, mushrooms

chocolate- marshmallows, rice crispy treats, any kind of berry, pretzels, pound cake, brownies
I use both.

You can use bread with cheese and fruit with chocolate. You can use small pieces of steak with olive oil too.
Cheese: Tortilla Chips, Bread Strips, Bread Balls.

(Cheddar Cheese (Cathedral City) or Elemental (Or however you spell it) would be nice)

Chocolate: Marshmallows, Strawberry's, Grapes, Melon, Kiwi, (Almost Every Fruit), Mini Doughnuts, Biscuits, Crepes (Pancakes) etc...

(Thorntons is nice, stay clear of Cadburys in a Chocolate Fountain)

Good Luck
Cheese:

bread cubes, broccoli, cauliflower, apples (granny smith are the best with the cheese), baby potatoes, tortilla chips, keilbasa, chorizo, tomatoes

You can also make bacon and crumble it up. Once you dip another item in the cheese you then dip it in the bacon. You can also do this with string fried onions or shallots.

Chocolate: bananas, strawberries, pound cake, rice crispy treats, biscotti, brownies, marshmallows, pretzels, pineapple, cheese cake

Cut all items into cubes.

What type of cheese you use is up to you. Many fondue restaurants offer several types of different cheese fondue. Use a cheese you like (that melts well). Do a search on the internet for a recipe that you like.
My first experience with fondue was in Switzerland, where cheese fondue is a standard on every menu. They serve it with crust of bread and whoever is the first to lose their bread crust in the fondue picks up the bill or you have to either buy the next bottle of wine or plant a kiss on someone of the opposite sex. It's a really grand time!

For chocolate fondue - fruit (strawberries, bananas, pineapple, star fruit, kiwi, orange slices, apple slices), angel food cake, waffles, brownies, donuts, butter cookies

Give your guests a separate plate and fork with which to transfer over their food while it cools. Also, it keeps their lips from touching the fondue fork %26amp; thus transferring germs to the fondue.

Here are some great recipes:

Cheese:

breadsticks

mushrooms

broccoli

meatballs

ham wedges

shrimp

chicken cubes

stake pieces
I actually use red wine instead of cheese and beef instead of bread. It is gorgous.
Bread is perfect for the cheese... and, bananas are awesome for the chocolate!
