16 ounces dark, sweet or semi-sweet chocolate

1 1/2 cups light cream

1 tsp. Vanilla extract

1. Break chocolate squares into smaller pieces and drop them into the fondue pot.

2. Add cream (which will prevent the chocolate from going lumpy) and stir gently but constantly until the chocolate is melted and smooth.

3. Add vanilla extract, and stir it in.

4. Use a fondue fork to spear the fruit, then dip it in the chocolate. Enjoy!

For some other variations on a basic chocolate fondue recipe, add:

chocolate fondue

This dessert fondue is great fun and easy to make - it's really nothing more than melted chocolate flavored with orange peel and orange brandy; you can make it at home in a flash. What's more, you don't need a fondue set - just a pan and a set of skewers. This recipe serves about 4 but is easily expanded.

Things You'll Need

1 oranges

1/2 pound bittersweet or semisweet chocolates

1/4-1/2 cup Grand Marnier , to taste

1/2 cup cream

fresh fruit (see tips)

2 cups pound cakes - cut into cubes

Instructions

STEP 1: Strip the zest from the orange using a zester, vegetable peeler, grater or sharp knife. Make sure to leave the bitter white pith behind. STEP 2: Place the zest and the cream in a small saucepan and bring to a simmer over low heat. STEP 3: Meanwhile, grate the chocolate and place in a fondue pot or clean metal bowl. STEP STEP 4: Simmer the cream for a minute or so, then shut off the heat and let steep a few more minutes.

STEP 5: Strain the hot cream into the chocolate, discarding the zest.

STEP 6: Melt the chocolate slowly. If necessary, place the pot or bowl over some slowly simmering water to aid melting. Stir chocolate and cream together.

STEP 7: Squeeze a tablespoon or two of orange juice into the chocolate, and add about 1/4 cup of the Grand Marnier.

STEP 8: Taste and add more Grand Marnier if desired.

STEP 9: Serve the melted chocolate suspended over a double boiler filled with hot water. If possible, don't serve it directly over a candle flame, as this can burn the chocolate and cause the mixture to separate.

STEP 10: Surround the chocolate pot with cut fruit, whole berries and pieces of cake to skewer and dip. Tips %26amp; Warnings

Use a high-quality bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, or a mixture of the two, depending on your personal preference. Valhrona, Tobler, Lindt, and Callebaut are just a few fine chocolate makers.

When it comes to the dippers, you're bound only by the season and your preference. Strawberries and cake cubes are favorites. Other berries, such as raspberries and blueberries, are good choices, as well as grapes. Cut fruit is good - try apples, kiwis, bananas and sectioned oranges. Or try halved fruit, such as fresh figs and apricots. And don't forget dried fruits such as apricots and cranberries.

You can also experiment with the liqueur you use. Cordials such as Grand Marnier and Frangelico (hazelnut liqueur) are best because of their high sugar content, but you can use brandy and rum, too. have a great day.

my fav reciepe:

Big Dippers

12 ounces sweet German chocolate, semisweet chocolate chips, or Toblerone chocolate

1 cup light cream or half and half

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1. Before melting the chocolate, prepare the fruit dippers. Wash and hull the strawberries (but leave them whole), slice the apples, peel and slice kiwis and peel and chop the pineapple (parents only). Cut the pound cake into cubes and leave the marshmallows whole. Arrange all the fruit, cake and marshmallows on a large platter. Squirt lemon juice on the apples and bananas to keep them from browning. Cover the platter and set it aside.

2. To prepare the fondue, ask your kids to break the chocolate squares into pieces and drop them into a saucepan. Add the light cream or half and half and melt over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the chocolate is smooth. Add the vanilla extract and stir.

3. Transfer the chocolate sauce to a fondue pot (for little kids, you can pour the sauce into a small bowl or ramekin). Use a fondue fork to spear the fruit and sweets, then dip in the chocolate (use toothpicks if the kids are dipping into a small bowl). Serves 8 to 10.

TIP: The addition of cream prevents the chocolate sauce from turning lumpy. The chef should stir the chocolate and cream together until smooth.
