Has anyone had fondue pots with chocolate in them vs a chocolate fountain at their wedding?

We are having a "chocolate" themed wedding. While I know that some of you hate themed weddings personally I love them. This is a small wedding with only 35 guests and we were going to have a chocolate fountain with all the trimmings. I have been re-thinking this due to all of the things that I have read about them failing to work, needing to be just right as far as levelling goes, the mess, etc. I was wondering if anyone has had chocolate fondue pots instead of a fountain? Was thinking that we would have 3 pots (milk, white, dark) Any comments?Has anyone had fondue pots with chocolate in them vs a chocolate fountain at their wedding?
I actually toyed with the idea of a "fondue" wedding for a small while. I thought it would be fun to have each course be a different type with all the tables having their each station like that Melting Pot resturant.

Here's the big issue EVERBODY had with the fondue pot concept. It's not that sanity. 35 hands and 35 stranger's germs on the skewers just doesn't appeal to people. But, if these are all close family and friends who know each other well it could be pulled off if you plan it out carefully.

If you do it you should follow a few changes:

1. plenty of bamboo skewers instead of metal ones so people aren't double dipping. Have several trashcans readily available or they will get tossed on the tablecloth and look really gross. They sell some cute versions for college dorms that could be put up there. Also, if you are renting linens you need to have a clear policy on what you pay for in terms of cleaning and stains. I reccomend you get two cloth placemats to make a large square for under the pots to catch the majority of the drippings)

3. Have them on seperate tables that people can move all the way around. One table fits 10 with chocolate, one fits 10 with white, one fits 10 with dark. If you put all three pots together it will be very hard to access because a fondue pot is low, not tall and tiered like a fountain. The last thing you want is a big brown smear on your dress because Uncle Bob was trying to squeeze in for another strawberry. :)

4. You will need to choose your dippers carefully. Stuff like poundcake that works Ok with chocolate fountains probably won't work as well for fondue because with the fountain the chocolate gently pours on but with foundue there is stress from dipping then that twisting to lift it out. Soft items like cake tend to break easily so you will have chunks floating by the end of the night and it'll look very unappetizing.

5. Who's gonna be in charge of managaing the fondue pots? The need constant watching to relight the candles, add more chocolate, refill the skewers or the dippers at popular stations. You may not want key family missing big moments because they were cutting more fruit or frantifa
we're having a chocolate fountain instead of a cake.

If i were you i'd get a chocolate fountain... with only having 35 guests i wouldnt go to the expense of hiring one though... you can buy them cheap enough.

Buy chocolate and dips and assign one person in charge of keeping it full and mess free.

Or "hire" a friend of a friend to man the fountain so the rest of your guests can enjoy the night.

The pots of chocolate would go hard over the evening. plus would look cheap.

Fondue pots sound like a neat idea and it's more original than the chocolate fountain. Either way, I'd advise having some sort of supervision. Fondue and fountains can be messy. Plus, drunken guests tend to forget their manners around liquid chocolate. Watch out for double dippers and finger dippers.
sounds really messy to me. i went to a birthday party with a chocolate fountain and it was fine but i would never do this at my wedding. however its up to youHas anyone had fondue pots with chocolate in them vs a chocolate fountain at their wedding?
My boyfriend used to work at a country club that hosted lots of wedding. He says avoid them like the plague. They are very messy and can be a pain both to guests and the staff.
I have never seen anyone do this, but this is a very cute idea! Especially since I have been pricing chocolate fountain rentals, and they are EXPENSIVE! I think you are covering all your bases with the three different types of chocolate for guests to choose from. But be sure to put something under them to catch all the dripped chocolate that could accumulate around the pots. My experience with fondue pots and lots of people tell me that they can also be messy. Order lots of napkins.

Super cute idea! Good luck!
I would say if you get a chocolate fountain get it from a professional, because then it is pretty much guaranteed to work. Otherwise the 3 separate fondue pots will work great as well!

I would love to here more about the chocolate theme...
Cute ideas, but I would go with the fountain. You can purchase these fountains very inexpensively at Target, Walmarts.
